Earlier this week, I had the privilege of sharing a stage with some amazing bands; Nova Hands, The Dark LP, Dead Dollar Days and 48Hours. The band that I took a massive liking to was The Dark LP. They don’t exactly fit into one genre. Their main sound is pretty much alternative rock with a hint of indie, reggae and punk so it has something for everyone.
Even though it is a small band of only 3 members (Alex Cairnes on lead vocals and guitar, Nick Doyle on backing vocals and bass and Rich Parker on drums) they are very tight and perform well together keeping the audience engaged. Their set list contained all original songs:
Where Do I Go
They were all catchy and different and there wasn’t a song that I wasn’t keen on. One that I particularly liked and haven’t got out of my head is their most recent release ‘Senseless‘ that they released earlier this year. With the upbeat rhythm its hard not to have a bit of a dance and sing along to, even if you didn’t know the lyrics you were able to pick some up along the way.
I got to have a chat with Alex and Nick as well as Adam Jerome, from the headline band 48hours, just after they played their set and they were easy to approach and had a good natter about how exactly we all came up with our band names, I guess not all bands have an amazing backing story behind their names! But I guess thats a story for them to tell.
I highly recommend going and catching The Dark LP at one of their upcoming gigs before they make it big time:
